Looking for Love

Greetings and blessings to you.

“Love lives in me. I find Love when I be Love. I get Love when I give Love. Love lives in me.”

We think of love as something to fall into. We think that finding love will make us healthy, happy and whole. We look for love in people, in places and things. We look for it here, we look for it there, we look for it everywhere. Then one day we wake up to see, that love has been with us all the time, just asking to be.

While contemplating our desire and quest for love this insight came to me: "I looked for Love here; I looked for Love there; Between here and there, I looked for Love everywhere. When at last I sat down to be, it was then that Love came to me.”

Back in 2016, our ministry at that time, was invited to provide an afternoon of spiritual music at a local senior center. It was on that afternoon that I had the blessing of meeting Mavis. On entering the music hall I noticed her immediately. Her presence was obvious and her energy quite captivating and although we had never met, I felt a distinct connection with her as a kindred spirit. It wasn't until later in the afternoon that I got to meet and talk with her for the first time. I was immediately engaged with her enlightened presence and youthful vitality. At some point in our conversation I could contain my curiosity no longer and asked her what gave her the zest for life, she responded immediately: “I live in the gratitude and attitude of love each and every day.”

Mavis went on to share that she lives each new day in the attitude of gratitude for a new day to be the presence and power of love in the world. That for most of her life she had desired love so dearly and had looked for it anxiously in all the wrong places for all the wrong reasons. Now having found the power of Divine Love within, she lives in the gratitude and attitude of sharing love each and every day. When we later parted, I thanked Mavis for sharing her insights and inspiration on finding with me. She smiled and winked, and before turning her attention again to the room, said to me: “The love in me sees and blesses the love in you.” Without hesitation and an instant smile, I replied: “And so it is.”

Charles Fillmore taught: “Love is an inner quality that sees good everywhere and in everybody. It insists that all is good, and by refusing to see anything but good it causes that quality to appear uppermost in itself, in others, and all things.” We find true Love when we look within. Finding the Divine principle of Love within us open our heart to understand Love and our eyes to see Love as a presence and power for potential perfect good in everyone, everything, everywhere.

Rumi wrote: “If you find me not within you, you will never find me. For I have been with you, from the beginning.” When we look for Love outside of ourselves we are looking for love in all the wrong places, for all the wrong reasons. A wise cat sat watching a young kitten chase after a marble on a hard wood floor: over here, over there, here, there, everywhere, the kitten chased the marble. After a while the cat asked the kitten what it was doing. “I’m chasing after love,” replied the kitten. “Chasing after love?” asked the cat. “Yes,” replied the kitten, “I believe that if I can catch that marble and hold it then I will have love.” “Oh dear,” said the cat, “I made that mistake too. Then one day I realized that love was in my heart, that I already had all the love I would ever need, and where ever I went, it followed me, and where ever I was, it was there too.” “Oh,” said the kitten, and then turned away to resume chasing after the marble, here, there and everywhere. Rumi further reminds us: “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

You are Love personified. The Divine principle of Love has the purpose and power to fulfill itself in us and through it. It comes ready, willing and able to fulfill its Divine purpose with power and prosperity. When we willingly and willfully connect with Love within and collaborate with Love demonstrating in our lives, we are Love personified. This is our gift to the world: Love experienced and expressed as you and me. Rumi: “Let the beauty of Love be who you are, be what you do.”

We fulfill our potential for Love when we decide and determine to practice the principle of Divine Love in our lives. Thereby Divine Love comes to fulfill its Divine purpose. It’s in the practice of Love that we personify Love in the world. The Divine principle of Love is perfect, the human practice of Love is progressive. Like anything, the more we practice the Divine principle of Love the better we get at it.

We are constantly being enticed with the error that when we get Love, we will have Love and we will be Loved. That is looking for love in all the wrong places for all the wrong reasons. In the quest for true Love we trust the spiritual principle of be to have: when we BE Love, we will HAVE Love, when we GIVE Love, we will GET Love. That is the true looking for Love and Love looking for and finding you, in the right place, for the right reason.

“Love lives in me. I find Love when I be Love. I get Love when I give Love. Love lives in me.”

Until next week, the blessing and bounty of Divine good to you.
